kaliDonaipur, India, Apr 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Police in the state of West Bengal in India are on the lookout for people who may have been involved in an act of sacrificial killing last Friday. The beheaded body of a man was lying inside a temple in the Donaipur village in Birbhum district of West Bengal. Police sources say that the body was naked when they located it inside the Hindu temple.

The detached head which was lying beside the body appeared severely injured. Police Superintendent Rabindranath Mukherjee speaking on behalf of the police authorities of the district reported today that the severed head was also marked with vermilion. Keeping in mind the fact that the temple was of the Hindu goddess Kali, authorities have raised the claim that the man was not murdered but was killed as a token of sacrifice to god.

As is seen in Kali temples across the country, this act too must have been for the same reason. According to a Hindu ritual, devotees have to sacrifice people or animals, usually a goat, by killing them in front of the idol of their goddess during a ‘puja’. Although the practice has been abolished by law it still continues to flourish in villages and far-flung areas of West Bengal. Police are of the view that the Donaipur killing too must have been for the same reason. The presence of flowers and incense sticks around the dead body only helps to confirm the fact, said the police. The case is still under investigation. Two people have been interrogated but nothing has been confirmed as yet by the police.
