Police baton charge students in Srinagar
June 13th, 2010 - 10:05 pm ICT by ANIRajouri (Jammu-Kashmir), June 13 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police resorted to baton charge against protesting students of an engineering institute here on Sunday.
Over 50 percent of the students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri district of the state had failed in the first year examinations. They have been demanding re-checking of their papers for a week.
On Sunday, the students resorted to demonstraton in the college premises.
Students criticized poilce’s baton charging and stone pelting, as they called it unwanted because everyone was protesting silently for the last week.
“They threw stones on us. They threw shells. They threw shells on students as if they were attacking terrorists,” said Tufail Ahmed, a student.
Meanwhile, the police officials said that two policemen were also injured in the clash.
“At last, when they reached very near the centre, we used police force to disperse them,” said Sabbeer Chaudhary, Assistant Superintendent of Police.
The students said that talking to the Vice Chancellor would not help and that they wanted a clarification from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself.
The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital. (ANI)
