Police arrests protesting BJP activists in Hyderabad
December 8th, 2009 - 6:40 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Hyderabad, Dec. 8 (ANI): Several BJP workers were arrested outside the Andhra Pradesh assembly where they had gathered to demand that the issue of autonomy for Telangana be discussed in the ongoing parliament session.
The incident took place when scores of BJP activists protested outside the state assembly in Hyderabad.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is on a fast unto death demanding that a separate Telangana state be carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
Widespread violence was reported from across the state as TRS activists enforced a 48-hour shutdown that concluded on Monday.
Rao, who has been spearheading a campaign for a separate Telangana state, was arrested in Karimnagar district on November 29, ahead of his fast-unto-death.
His fast entered the eighth day on Sunday.
TRS activists have been taking to the streets after Rao was arrested. (ANI)
