Imphal, Feb 19(ANI): Manipur Police has arrested three rebels and recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives in Imphal, a top police official said on Friday.

Police recovered a huge cache of ammunition including 2,100 cartridges of AK series rifles, 500 M-16 rifle rounds, 70 lathode bombs, ten Chinese hand grenades with detonators, 13 Chinese-made two-inch mortar shells, and other ammunition from their possession.

Officials claimed that the rebels belonged to the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) outfit that came to the city to carry out extortion activities.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Imphal West, A.K. Jhalajit Singh, said that the police launched an operation after acting on a tip-off and nabbed the rebels.

“Yesterday, at about 5.30 pm, we got an input information from our intelligence sources that an important PLA hardcore cadre will be coming to Imphal to assist in extortion activities,” Singh said.

“As a result…on information about an over ground PLA activist supposed to carry out extortion activities at Imphal areas, teams of police commandos were deployed at strategic locations of the twin capital district for frisking and checking duty yesterday,” he added. (ANI)
