PM expresses concern over slow progress of infrastructure projects

Reviewing the implementation of various programmes taken up under the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP) here, Singh directed that a meeting of the Committee on Infrastructure be called to review progress in power, roads, ports, telecom and railway sectors.

Among the issues discussed at the meeting were implementation of the recommendations of the Radhakrishna Committee on agricultural indebtedness, Vaidyanathan Committee Report on cooperative sector and the Sachar Committee Report on empowerment of Minorities.

Singh also reviewed the implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), revamping of Public Distribution System, implementation of social security initiatives like old age pension and health insurance schemes for disabled persons.

He also reviewed the implementation of initiatives in education sector, including announcements made in his Independence Day address. (ANI)
