New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has condoled the demise of Arunachal Pradesh Congress President Omem Moyong Deori.
In his message, Dr. Singh said, I am deeply grieved to learn of the sad demise of Omem Moyong Deori, President of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee. Her unfortunate passing away due to illness is a major loss to the people and the State of Arunachal Pradesh.
Dr. Singh described Deori as a prominent personality in the public life of Arunachal Pradesh, and as a person who was held in high esteem for her important contributions to the development of the State.
Describing her as a dedicated functionary of the Congress party, Dr. Singh said, She always remained in the forefront to spread its ideals and consolidate its position in the State. Her manifold activities in this direction endeared Deori to her numerous friends, associates, colleagues and admirers.
A multifaceted personality, she had the distinction of being a Member of Parliament and effectively playing her role as a legislator, Dr. Singh added.
The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to her family members and all those who were close to her.
May her soul rest in peace, Dr. Singh added.
Deori died here on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. She was 64.
A member of the Rajya Sabha from 1984 to 1990, she became State Congress President in 1988. She was elected to the State Assembly in 1990. (ANI)
