London, April 30 (ANI): The house which helped inspire JM Barrie’s classic children’s story Peter Pan is up for sale for the second time in eight years.
The former nursing home was sold at auction in November 2000 for 80,000 pounds but is now on the market for offers over 140,000 pounds, with Remax, being its selling agent.

“There is a lot of interest. We have had inquiries from various parts of Britain,” Scotsman quoted a spokesman, as saying.

There were plans to transform the property into a Peter Pan themed hotel but it has lain empty for the past eight years and has regularly been the target of vandalism attacks.

Barrie, who was born in Kirriemuir in Angus, moved to Dumfries in 1873 at the age of 13.

Two of his childhood friends lived at Moat Brae, a place he later credited as his inspiration for Peter Pan.

“When the shades of night began to fall, certain young mathematicians changed their skins, crept up walls and down trees and became pirates in a sort of Odyssey that was afterwards to become the play of Peter Pan, Barrie said.

Our escapades in a certain Dumfries garden, which is enchanted land to me, was certainly the genesis of that nefarious work,” he added.

A Barrie House Action Group has been formed in Dumfries to campaign for the preservation of the property and its link with the author.

“We hope if the house is sold it will be restored and preserved,” Group Chairman, Roger Windsor said. (ANI)
