People of Delhi to benefit from hosting CWG in their city, says Sheila Dikshit

New Delhi, Oct.2 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Saturday that the people of Delhi would reap dividends of hosting the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event to promote the registration process of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UID) project, Dikshit also said that people are all geared up for the Games.

“The people of Delhi are ready; they are happy and are sharing their joy because of the Games. Delhi has emerged well after the beautification with new and clean roads, construction of more metro routes, new buses. The people of Delhi will benefit from all this. Some of these are permanent with long-term benefit and everybody is excited about the Games, especially the youth,” said Sheila Dikshit.

Apart from 8,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member countries, India is expecting a huge inflow of spectators and tourists during this mega event.

The Commonwealth Games, 2010, will be held from 3rd to 14th of October in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Dikshit today told NDTV that she is “not nervous” any more. “We are ready for the games.”

Disclosing that “60 per cent of the village was unlivable, when it was handed over to us, ” Dikshit said, “We have made the Commonwealth Village ready in a week.”

She also said that the Chief Minister should be given more powers.

On her share of irregularities observed ahead of the Games, Dikshit said, “The blame comes to me. But I had no powers in many areas.” (ANI)
