Kanpur/ Ludhiana / Nagpur, Apr 9(ANI): Thousands of supporters across India of social activist Anna Hazare’s crusade for the institution of Lok Pal Bill came out into streets on Saturday to hail his success.

They celebrated the victory of Hazare, who had undertaken a fast-unto-death demanding the Central government to issue a notification on setting up a new panel to review the Bill with participation of civil society in it.

People in Kanpur distributed sweets and burst crackers to celebrate the occasion, and also lauded Hazare’s initiative. They described it as the victory of people over corruption.

“This is the victory of people of India and the victory of democracy. We are distributing sweets to mark this event and celebrate it. This is the victory of people and we have faith that after this in India, especially in government organizations, there would be a check on corruption and one day corruption would be totally eradicated from the country,” said Janesh Mishra, a resident of Kanpur and supporter Hazare’s crusade.

In Ludhiana, members of Jagriti Sena, a voluntary forum, distributed sweets to locals to herald Hazare’s success.

“This is the victory of Anna Hazare and 120 billion people of this country. We are here celebrating this victory by bursting crackers,” said Prakash Singh, a Jagriti Sena member.

Meanwhile, residents of Nagpur came out into the streets in large numbers with drums and danced.

“We are very happy. But this is just a beginning. We should not stop it with this. We have to take it forward,” said Chandrashe Bisen, a Nagpur resident.

The Central government on Friday agreed to Hazare’s demand for a separate Lok Pal Bill and issued an order for setting up a committee with participation from civil society and elected representatives.

On this score, the Gandhian activist had undertaken indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi on Tuesday that he gave up after 98 hours on Saturday, after the government conceded to his and other social activists’ demand. (ANI)
