Right now weve got, you know, in addition to the coalition support fund and the foreign military financing, there is a proposal coming out of CENTCOM to provide some additional kinds of financial assistance that would assist the Pakistani military in their counter-terrorism operations, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell was quoted by the Daily Times as saying.
The proposal seems to be in a very premature phase as the official seemed to know very little about it. But this is just a proposal at this point, hasnt gotten to the secretary and hasnt been briefed to the Congress. I think its in the conceptual stages and I dont have really anything further beyond that, Geoff Morrell added.
The proposed funding is supposed to take further the existing programmes, including the coalition support fund and foreign military financing.
Earlier, US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne Patterson had said on Thursday, that the US has given Pakistan $1.2 billion to support the war on terror over a year.
A grant of $400 million to Pakistan is continuing quarterly and America has no intention to block the aid as it is necessary for Pakistan to rid itself of terrorism Patterson said in a TV interview, reported The News.
The US Ambassador also said that the terror war did not mean that Pakistan had been declared unsafe. She added that Pak-US strategic relations were progressing in a positive direction, with the new US administration also eager to promote ties. (ANI)
