Passengers turn violent as man dies at Kolkata railway station
February 24th, 2011 - 12:35 pm ICT by ANIKolkata, Feb.24 (ANI): The death of a young man, due to the negligence of railway officials at Kolkata’s Dum Dum Railway Station, led to passengers attacking railway officials and property.
People ransacked the station and stoned the signaling cabin.
Sources say passengers had approached the station manager with a request to take the injured man to the hospital, but no help was offered.
Narrating the incident, Sanjib Poddar, a passenger, said: “At about 3.30 pm, a man of around 55 years was running along with a train and got injured. The man was lying alive for 45 minutes on the side of the railway track.”
” Inspite of requesting the railway authorities to attend to the injured person, no action was taken and consequently, the man died. Then the people got furious. This mishap has upset entire railway services,” he added.
The furious mob also indulged in arson, which damaged railway property.
Due to this chaos, the scheduled operation of several trains along this line had been severely affected. (ANI)
