New Delhi, Dec 7 (ANI): Both Houses of the Parliament on Monday witnessed a heated debate on the findings of Liberhan Commission of inquiry into the demolition of the Babri Mosque.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded to bring leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who have been accused by the Commission to justice and questioned no mention of Congress leader Narsimha Rao in the report.
Participating in the debate CPM polit buro member Sitaram Yechury said : “Narasimha Rao’s role during that time has virtually been whitewashed and now this is something which we don’t think is acceptable when even the Congress party themselves have recognised that, he did not adequately protect the mosque as he should have and in fact the Congress party has apologised to the nation about that.”
“Even after that all this has not been taken into cognisance by Liberhan Commission, which is unfortunate. But we make a distinction between one important point; we have to make distinction between the murderer and the policeman who could have prevented the murder but did not do it,but these are two different roles. Murderer is a murderer who has to be punished for the crime,” he added.
In the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party member Jayaprada said : “I think the culprits should be punished by the court.”
The then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh who is an independent member, slammed the report.
“It was demonstrated today how faulty the Liberhan Commission report is. It is distorted and half baked and is fit to be thrown into the dustbin,” said Singh.
The discussion will continue on Tuesday and Home Minister P Chidambaram is expected to reply to the debate in the evening. (ANI)
