Parasailing camp organised for Oriya girlsDecember 6th, 2007 - 6:16 pm ICT by admin
Bhubaneswar, Dec 6 (ANI): Over a hundred school and college girls from across Orissa participated in a three-day parasailing camp organised in Bhubaneswar recently.
Many of the girls, who did paragliding for the first time, were initially scared but soon started enjoying every bit of the activity.
When I did it for the first time, I was a little scared. But when I went up, it seemed I was floating. I did not feel like coming down,” said Smita Majhi, a student.
This event also rejuvenated the girls, who said now they want more such camps to be organised.
The event was organised by the National Adventure Foundation.
The organisers said that the camp envisaged promoting adventure sports among women.
The main objective of this programme is to promote adventure sports among the youth. We also want to bring women in the limelight,” said Nibedita Acharya, the Programme Coordinator.
The girls were given special training in parasailing before participating in the camp.
Parasailing, also known as parascending, is a recreational activity where a person is towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while attached to a parachute. The boat then drives off, carrying the parascender into the air. The parascender has little or no control over the parachute. (ANI)
