Paramilitary personnel bust a Maoist camp in Chhattisgarh
January 9th, 2011 - 7:23 pm ICT by ANIRajnandgaon, Jan 9 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Police and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel bust a Maoist camp during a joint operation in Rajnandgaon District.
The security forces seized arms, ammunitions and essential items of daily use such as hair oil, soap bars, edibles and transistors among others.
The police on Sunday said the seizure was done after a brief encounter.
“Police along with the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Forces) from Sitagaon and Aundhi camped in the forests for six days. During the camp, one of the search parties the Maoists had an encounter with Platoon No. 10. The Maoists commander is Jangu. In that encounter, we were able to bust their camp and recover their assets in huge amount,” said ITBP Platoon Commander Y. P. Singh.
According to media reports, the joint forces of ITBP and state police searched the forest and raided the camp after the encounter.
They recovered a rifle, one country-made pistol, bullets and two bombs.
Rajnandgaon witnessed a major Maoist attack in 2009, when the ultras killed 26 security personnel in an ambush. (ANI)
