Pallam Raju lauds Norway’s role in conflict resolution
March 2nd, 2010 - 9:01 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Mar 2(ANI): Minister of State for Defence Dr. M.M. Pallam Raju on Tuesday lauded the role of Norway in conflict resolution and promoting peace.
Inaugurating a bilateral seminar in the national capital, Dr. Raju said that India and Norway have shared interest in promotion of a peaceful world order.
Noting that Norway is often called a ‘peace nation’, the Minister pointed out that the two countries have been cooperating with the global community on vital issues such as anti-piracy, conflict resolution, UN peacekeeping, disaster relief and climate change.
“Its efforts like our own have not been always successful but that does not detract from Norway’s abiding interest and commitment for a peaceful world,” Dr. Raju said.
Recalling a brief stint in Norway he had as a business executive, Dr. Raju said that India could gain from Norway’s efforts in climate research and work together in the global forums to promote equitable policy interventions.
Lauding the Norwegian Research Council for its concerted efforts to promote research in Indian affairs, the Minister said, “As India’s economy grows in an interdependent and globalizing world, the nations of the world will have stakes in our stability and security.”
Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store also participated in the deliberations.
The two-day second bilateral seminar has been organized jointly by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) and the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS). (ANI)
