Pakistans runaway brides handed over to their families

May 2nd, 2008 - 4:22 pm ICT by admin -

Lahore, May 1 (ANI): Magistrates and police in various provinces of Pakistan have reportedly handed over more than two dozen women who were involved in an illegal bride trade to their heirs.

According to sources, these women were part of prostitutes ring that deceived people in tribal and rural areas. These escaped brides vanished within three or six months of their marriage.

A woman who was a part of this illegal prostitutes ring, fetched a price ranging between Rs100,000 to Rs150,000, depending upon her looks and age, states the Dawn.

All these escaped brides mentioned Lakhu Khosa as their seller, but the Sadar Police is yet to file a case against the accused.

Sources claim many of these brides are still staying in tribal areas and will run away once they find way to do so.

Among the runaway brides picked up between 2002 and 2008 are: Shazia of Lahore; Sadia of Kasur; Ramzana of Sheikhupura; Bushra, Asia, Asmat Bibi and Saima. (ANI)
