Pakistanis feel no system of government in country is corruption-free

Karachi, Nov 14 (ANI): A new survey conducted in Pakistan has revealed that people believe no system of governance including federal, provincial, district, tehsil/taluka and union was corruption-free as contracts and construction project licences are awarded after minting money.

The findings of the National Survey on Citizens Perceptions and Preferences on the Local Government System in Pakistan were presented at Provincial Dissemination Workshop here last evening.

A total of 4002 people were interviewed across the country by the survey team while in Sindh, 18 districts including 10 urban localities and 32 rural localities were targeted. In Sindh some 1,101 people were interviewed including 363 males and 355 females from urban areas and 191 males and 192 females from rural areas.

Only two per cent people in Sindh responded affirmatively that the government arrange public meetings to discuss their problems and for formulation of policies.

Around 80 per cent people claimed that the district governments in the province dont consult people on budgetary priorities while 79 per cent held provincial and 75 per cent tehsil/taluka governments responsible for not taking them into confidence while preparing budgets.

More than 26 per cent people in Sindh were unhappy about the performance of BHUs in Sindh, saying either they were far away from their residences or there were no medicines for the patients.

Regarding provision of education, some 39 per cent people said they were not satisfied on the standard of education being imparted at government-run schools.

Over 70 per cent people claimed that there is no government connection available to them to get potable water as 68 per cent complained insufficient amount of water and 66 per cent not satisfied on the pressure and 64 per cent show reservations on water quality. As many as 36 per cent people agreed that garbage was being collected from their houses on daily basis while only one per cent respondents in rural areas said garbage was being collected from their homes.
