Pakistan not taking enough steps to control terror groups, says Antony
January 9th, 2010 - 7:55 pm ICT by ANIKochi, Jan 9(ANI): Concerned over reports of large number of militants from Pakistan waiting to cross Line of Control (LoC), Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Saturday said Pakistan is not taking action to combat terrorist groups.
Antony during a media conference here, said terror groups are still active in Pakistan and it is a matter of major concern.
“Almost all the terrorist outfits operating from across the border are still operating and the government of Pakistan is not taking much steps. It is a matter of concern and we are taking all precautions,” the Defense Minister said.
There are reports that over 700 militants are waiting across the border in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) to sneak into Kashmir Valley.
Antony, on Saturday, also presented President’s Tatrakshak Medal and Tatrakshak Medal for gallantry and meritorious services to 18 coastguard personnel.
Addressing the Coast Guard personnel, Antony stressed that coastal security is country’s top priority to safeguard the nation.
“Indian coast guard and Indian navy will take all steps necessary to guarantee coastal security to Kerala and also to all other coastal states. And whenever our fishermen are in distress, we can rest assure that we are there as their saviors when every attempt is failed,” he said.
Antony further added that more ships, boats, aircrafts and manpower are required to strengthen the Indian coastguard.
He said process of acquisition of 20 fast patrolling vessels, 41 introspective boats, 10 coastal survey aircrafts and 7 offshore patrolling vehicles is well underway. (ANI)
