Over 724 crores released for police forces in states: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Nov.30 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday said that the central government has released over Rs.724 crore or 57.2 percent of the budget provision for the welfare of personnel of central police organizations (CPOs) and central paramilitary forces (CPMFs) for fiscal 2010-11.
Delivering his monthly report for November, he said that the amount has been released under the MPF Scheme for state police forces, and it included Rs. 138.03 crore released to 20 States in November this year.
He also said that the government has under the Special Infrastructure Scheme sanctioned a sum of Rs.23.97 crore. (SIS) to Orissa (Rs.9.59 crore); Chhattisgarh (Rs.9.59 crore) and West Bengal (Rs.4.79 crore) He revealed that sanctions amounting to Rs.107.19 crore were issued for acquisition of land for the Sashastra Seema Bal (Rs.93.46 crore); Indo-Tibetan Border Police (Rs.7.04 crore) and the Border Security Force (Rs.6.69 crore).Sanctions amounting to Rs.43.23 crore were issued for the construction of residential accommodation for the Assam Rifles (Rs.28.84 crore) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CoBRA) (Rs.14.39 crore).
A lump sum ex-gratia compensation amounting to Rs.3.23 crore was sanctioned to the next of kin of 29 deceased paramilitary personnel, while Rs.116.80 crore was released to the left-wing extremist affected states under the SRE scheme.He said that on November 23, the central government has released Rs.52 lakhs for the purchase of a driving simulator for North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA).
The government, he said, had also sanctioned the creation of 370 posts in the Central Industrial Security Force at Diu Airport; Calicut Airport; Omkareshwar hydro-electric project in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh; the SEWA hydro-electric project in Jammu and Kashmir; the Nuclear Fuel Complex in Pazhakayal, Kerala and the Rare Material Project in Mysore, Karnataka.
