New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes today called upon the corporate sector to be a partner in making a more humane and just society.
Presiding over the 42nd Meeting of the Standing Labour Committee (SLC) here, Fernandes said that the country needs a new partnership for inclusive growth and the industry must be pro-active in offering employment to the less privileged.
He further said that industry must consider investing in people and their skills and offer scholarships to promising young people.
The employer and employee have to work together in tandem to achieve the common objective of prosperity, he said, adding that employment generation is an important pillar of any strategy of inclusive growth.
“While our Government will continue to create an environment friendly atmosphere for the growth of manufacturing, leaders of industry must also facilitate employment creation in their industries,” he said.
Interests of labour and capital are identical, Fernandes said, adding that on their welfare depends the prosperity of the industry.
Fernandes said the Directorate General of Employment and Training has taken up various new schemes for qualitative and quantitative enhancement of vocational training.
The objective of all these schemes is to improve the quality of vocational training in the country and make it demand driven so as to ensure better employability of the youth. (ANI)
