Orissa tribals prepare special soup to counter heat
May 1st, 2011 - 5:44 pm ICT by ANIKoraput (Orissa), May 1 (ANI): With the mercury rising, tribes in Orissa’s Koraput District prepare Mandia Pej, a particular type of soup to beat the heat.
The villagers said the soup is made of millet grains and effectively counters the heat by cooling the stomach.
“It is the best dish to eat during the summers. It will beat the heat and we will not feel hungry for long if it is taken,” said Bhagat Ram.
They said the dish is more important for them during the summers that their own staple food, rice.
“This millet gruel will cool our stomach. We can’t survive without this. We can manage without rice, which is our staple food but can’t manage without this. While preparing this, we add some rice gruel in it and it would add the taste. This is very nutritious too. We use this in large amounts in our diet,” said Punai Mali. (ANI)
