Orissa Police gun down nine Maoists in Rayagada encounter
January 9th, 2011 - 2:37 pm ICT by ANIRayagada, Jan 9 (ANI): Orissa Police gunned down nine Maoists during an encounter in Rayagada District on Sunday morning.
“The gun battle took place in Kashipur-Kalyansinghpur border area, after the police conducted a raid following information about presence of the ultras there,” said Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj.
“Bodies of nine rebels and some weapons and explosive materials were found in the area where the Maoists were believed to have set up a camp,” he added.
DIG Soumendra Priyadarshi further informed that a police team led by Muniguda Sub-Divisional Police Officer R. Prakash raided the site at Bhamramali near Huma Jharan following reports about the presence of some ultras in the area.
“The operation was carried out by the personnel of Orissa State Armed Police. Additional force was sent to the area for conducting combing operation and stepping up patrolling,” said DIG Priyadarshi. (ANI)
