November 22nd, 2009 - 4:51 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Narayanpatna (Orissa), Nov 22 (ANI): The Orissa Government on Sunday ordered heavy deployment of security forces in Korapat Distrct following the death of two activists of the Maoist backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) outfit in Narayanpatna town.
On Saturday, two CMAS activists, including its chief Wadeka Sigana, were killed when police opened fire to prevent a mob from attacking the Narayanpatna Police Station.
According to the Korapat Distrct administration, over 300 tribal activists attacked the police station in an attempt to snatch weapons from the police and also to ransack the armory.
The Korapat Deputy Superintendent of Police, P K Sahani said : “The tribals of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha under the leadership of Wadeka Singana came to attack the police station. Their intention was to kill all the police officers and ransack arms and ammunition from them so that panic spreads in Narayanpatna and they can forcibly rule the region. But our forces didn’t let them become successful in their motive.”
But The CMAS claims that its activists gathered outside the police station to protest against atrocities by security personnel while on patrol.
Police maintain the tribals attacked the inspector in-charge of the police station with a sharp farming weapon and snatched an Ak-47 rifle and firearms from the sentry.
Police claim they opened fire to protect themselves from the protestors.
Although the tribals have fled from the spot, tension prevails in the region. (ANI)
