Orissa flood death toll rises to 26
July 16th, 2009 - 7:48 pm ICT by ANIBhubaneshwar, July 16 (ANI): Water levels in most rivers in Orissa are flowing above the danger mark following heavy rains across the State.
Water levels in major rivers, including Mahanadi, Brahmani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha, Bansadhara and Rushikulya continue to rise due to a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal.
So far, flash floods have claimed 26 lives.
Among the worst hit are districts are Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Ganjam.
In fresh incidents on Wednesday, two persons were swept away by flood waters in Keonjhar and Bhadrak districts while a woman was killed after a wall collapsed at Sindhuri in Nayagarh district.
Three more bodies have been recovered from Nayagarh district. The bodies were of those who went missing after a bus was swept away by flood waters on Monday at Daspalla. (ANI)
