Only PPP will restore deposed judges in Pak, says GilaniJune 17th, 2008 - 3:31 pm ICT by ANI
Lahore, June 17 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that his party, the PPP, was committed to restore the judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007, and that his party chief Asif Ali Zardari was slated to meet PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif tomorrow to discuss the issue.
Claiming that his party had not sidelined the judges issue, he said that no other political party in the country other than the PPP could ensure restoration of judges.
Come what may, it will be no other political party but PPP that is going to restore the deposed judges. PPP has not slighted the promise it made with the people of Pakistan , The News quoted Gilani as saying while talking to media in Lahore after concluding a meeting with CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif.
Refuting reports of differences between the PPP and the PML-N, he said that there was no doubt in the deeply rooted ties of the two parties.
The main point of contention between the two biggest parties in the country is that while the PML-N demands restoration of judges through a parliamentary resolution, the PPP wants to do the same through a constitutional package which is learnt to have already been drafted by it. The PML-N is of the view that restoration of judges through a constitutional order would not carry enough force, as compared to that done through a parliamentary resolution. (ANI)
