Bhavnagar (Gujarat), July 7 (ANI): One person was killed and six were injured here today when a private security guard opened fire on diamond workers who were demanding a wage hike of 20 per cent in Kumudwadi area of the city in a protest rally.
According to sources the security guard opened fire when the protest by the diamond workers turned violent.
The injured have been shifted to the nearby hospital.
Bhavnagar District Superintendent of Police Anupamsingh Gehlot said, “We have detained the security guard who opened fire on the diamond workers.”
Diamond workers of Rajkot, Surat, Ahmedabad and Amreli are demanding 20 per cent wage hike.
Diamond workers across Gujarat started their protest yesterday for wage hike.
However, according to police sources, the situation is under control after police canned and dispersed the agitating workers.
