One killed in police recruitment drive stampede in Mumbai
March 8th, 2010 - 2:27 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Mar 8 (ANI): One person was killed and eleven injured in a stampede at the Kalina Ground here today.
The stampede occurred during a police recruitment drive.
Over 10,000 candidates had gathered for the recruitment drive. When the gate was opened, all candidates rushed in, resulting in the stampede.
Mumbai’s Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has been asked to probe the incident.
There are 3250 vacancies in Mumbai Police while 15,000 posts of constables are lying vacant in Maharashtra. (ANI)
