Srinagar, Mar 28 (ANI): One Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in an encounter with police in Dharamsal village of Kalakote Sector in Rajouri District on Saturday.
Two militants, however, managed to escape, police officials said.
“During the operation, one militant commander named Abu Adnan belonging from Hizbul Mujahideen outfit got killed. Rest of the two managed to escape but we have launched a combing operation in the forest to nab them. We have cordoned off the area and the operation is still on,” said Ramesh Kumar Bhat, Superintendent of Police, Nowshehra.
Bhat informed that a search operation was launched and a gun battle followed after the suspected militants refused to surrender.
He further said that the police is after militants, and would not let them go.
“Police is trying it’s best to destroy the terrorist infrastructure to insure free and fear less participation of the people in the upcoming general elections,” He added.
According to intelligence reports, the militants are planning to strike during the elections.
Overall violence has risen significantly across Kashmir since the turmoil in Pakistan began. (ANI)
