One guerrilla killed, firing continues in Kashmir village
January 12th, 2010 - 1:57 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Jan 12 (IANS) A separatist guerrilla from the Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district in a gunfight that started the evening before and continued Tuesday with his colleague still firing at security forces, police here said.
A team of state police and troops from the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) had surrounded a house in Pulwama’s Abhama village, about 50 km from here, Monday evening following information that guerrillas were hiding inside.
“Militants started firing at the surrounding troops after being challenged. The fire was returned and a gunfight ensued which is still on. So far, one militant has been killed while another is holed up and firing at the security forces,” a police officer said.
Authorities have rushed more reinforcements to the village where tension is high following the fierce exchange of fire.
