Omar supports FDI in retail
November 28th, 2011 - 6:58 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Nov 28 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has come out in open support of Foreign Direct Investment in retail and tried to allay fears on this count by recalling his days in the NDA government.
“I remember the same ‘Indian Business will Die’ when we rolled Quantitative Restrictions on Imports back under WTO commitments during NDA,” he posted on a micro blogging site Twitter Monday.
In another tweet, he said: “I was MoS Commerce in NDA Govt & the same noises echoed. Indian industry didn’t die, it learned to swim better & stronger.”
Omar’s father and union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah also marketed the FDI in retail at a public meeting in Mahanpur area of Basholi in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir Sunday. He said that “farmers will benefit the most, their produce will fetch them several times high price than they were getting now and more than 10 million jobs will be created because of the foreign investment”.
