Omar meets Chidambaram on revoking AFSPA

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Ahead of the report of the central interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir, state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday met Home Minister P. Chidambaram here and discussed issues related to revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFPSA) from some parts of the state.
Sources said that repeal of Disturbed Areas Act (DDA) from parts of the state was also discussed at the meeting. They said that if an area is removed from the list under the DAA, the AFPSA is not applicable to it.
Three interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir — noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar, academician Radha Kumar and former information commissioner M.M. Ansari — are expected to submit their report Wednesday when their term of appointment expires.
The team of interlocutors was appointed Oct 13 last year, when the Kashmir situation had turned grim following street protests and the killing of more than 100 youth in violence and firing by security forces.
