Omar assures action against anyone found guilty of youth killings
June 23rd, 2010 - 11:10 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, June 23 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday assured action against those responsible for the recent killings of youth in the State.
Speaking to the local media, Abdullah asserted that no one is above the law while adding that the State requires peace to develop and prosper and not blood, which is demanded by the separatist groups who are misleading the state’s youth.
“We will not allow any misuse of power to escape without punishment, anywhere. Be it the misuse of power by the armed forces or the central paramilitary forces or the J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) Police. If it is found that power has been misused, we will take action against them and those found guilty will be punished,” said Abdullah.
Referring to the recent deaths of young men in the region Omar called for forming neighborhood committees to keep a watch on the youth of the area.
“If people are ready to take responsibility of these children, then such a situation will not arise wherein I have to make arrests. Only if the civilians and the elders of the city take responsibility; members of the Masjid (mosque) and mohalla (neighborhood) committees should take responsibility so that the government does not need to do this again,” said Abdullah.
