Not our responsibility to train paramilitary forces against Maoists: Raman Singh
July 2nd, 2010 - 8:51 pm ICT by ANIRaipur, July 2 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday said the paramilitary forces are trained enough and it not his responsibility to prepare them for anti-Maoist operations.
Singh, however, defended the statement of Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP) Vishwaranjan Singh in which he slammed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for ignoring information provided to them by intelligence agencies. “No, the statement that came from the Director General of Police is in the context that all the paramilitary forces are given adequate training, and we do not teach them here. This is not a training institute, we won’t teach them,” said Singh. On Thursday, Vishwaranjan Singh said the state police had shared intelligence inputs with the CRPF regarding the presence and movement of Maoists in the area.
On Tuesday, at least 90 Maoists were involved in an ambush on a 63-strong CRPF road-opening party, which was returning to the unit after completing their tasks. It took place around 3 p.m. near Dhaudhai Police Station in Narayanpur. The preliminary post-mortem reports said the Naxals pumped in three to four bullets into each of the bodies that were found. Several personnel had their throats slit, while others had their heads smashed and limbs severed. (ANI)
