North Cachar Hills, Aug. 22 (ANI): The conflict between the Dimasa tribe and the Zemei Nagas in North Cachar Hills has affected many people and left hundreds of villagers homeless.

Tribals in North Cachar Hills district of Assam have been living a peaceful life for a long time. But with the rise of militant activities, they too have been affected.

The clashes between these two groups do not have the support of the people, but are backed by militant groups.

But to keep themselves away from miscreants and ensure, the villagers have adopted new methods of checking.

Villagers have set up special-check gates and Village Defense Parties (VDPs) to protect their villages from militants.

The check posts screen everyone before they enter the village including private as well as government vehicles.

L.Jeme, a member of the Village Defense Party in North Cachar Hills, points out that the trouble has been caused by some selfish people who want to gain quick popularity.

“A third party is involved in the violence and both the Dimasa and the Zemei community feel that the third party are militants,” said Dipali Haphila, a member of the Dimasa Mothers Association, North Cachar Hills.

The recent clashes between the Zemei Naga and the DIMASA tribe have disrupted normal life. In last three months, both the communities have suffered as militants have set villages on fire and killed innocent people.

“We have seen too much of suffering. We the villagers want to live in peace but these barriers have really brought us pain. Earlier, there was nothing like this, we use to live together in harmony. But because of some militants everything has gone out of control,” said I. Jeme a villager, North Cachar Hills.

The killings and violence in NC Hills by militants are deplorable and have been condemned by the people irrespective of religion, caste and tribal affiliation. (ANI)
