Nominations begin for Tamil Nadu Assembly polls
March 19th, 2011 - 7:35 pm ICT by ANIChennai, Mar 19 (ANI): Filing of nominations for the 14th Tamil Nadu Assembly began this morning.
The last date for filing of nominations is March 26. Scrutiny of nominations will be held March 28 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 30.
Talking to reporters here, the Chief Electoral officer Praveen Kumar said that the returning officers would be receiving the applications everyday till March 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pointing out that two lakh 76 thousand government employees will be nominated to conduct the single phase polls in the State, Kumar said that 58 expenditure observers will start monitoring the expenses of the candidates.
Referring to security preparation, Kumar said that ten thousand booths were identified as sensitive and this may change according to the scenario.
Regarding misuse of government vehicles, he said that the election commission has taken action in 1605 cases.
He further said that once the candidates have filed their nominations, their affidavits will be updated in the websites.
The polling for 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 13. (ANI)
