No takers for Sir Sean Connery’’s memoir
October 6th, 2008 - 4:57 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 6 (ANI): James Bond star Sir Sean Connerys highly anticipated autobiography has been deemed a flop after poor sales figures.
Despite receiving extensive media coverage and having top billing at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the book, Being A Scot, has sold only 5,000 copies in the UK since its publication in August.
Co-written with film-maker Murray Grigor, the memoir features childhood reminiscences and comment about Scottish culture and politics but is low on insights into the actors private life and his lengthy film career.
Now the Oscar-winning actor looks set to suffer the indignity of being beaten in sales by Sir Roger Moore, who succeeded him as 007 and released his own autobiography last week.
Connerys tome is even being outsold by the memoirs of TV chef Clarissa Dickson Wright, reports the Daily Express.
Despite poor sales figures, a rep for Connery insists he is delighted with the way Being A Scot had been received.
A spokesman for publisher Michael OMara, who released Sir Roger Moores book, My Word Is My Bond, says he is very confident Sir Rogers title would outsell Being A Scot.
Graham Rye, editor of the James Bond magazine, 007, added: Roger Moores book will ultimately sell more than Seans because it is a more accessible read and is full of funny and amusing showbusiness anecdotes.
The general book-buying public were after an intimate biography about Sean Connery the man and if he had produced that sort of book, then Im sure it would have flown off the shelves, Rye added. (ANI)
