No new states are to be created: Pranab Mukherjee

Kolkata, Dec 12 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that the nod for Telangana does not mean that new states would be created everywhere.
Addressing the media in Kolkata, Mukherjee said: “The demand for Telangana was old and it does not mean that everywhere new states are to be created.”
Mukherjee also said that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had indicated that there were several stages leading to formation of a state, and in the case of Telangana, developments were at a preliminary stage.
His comment came a day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati demanded the formation of Poorvanchal and Bundelkhand.
The Union Government’s decision to start the process of forming Telangana has paved way for the demand for statehood across the country, including Vidarbha, Gorkhaland, Bodoland, Harit Pradesh, Bundelkhand and Purvanchal. (ANI)
