July 3rd, 2010 - 5:29 pm ICT by ANIRajashthan July 3: (ANI) Police have arrested nine Indian Oil Corporation officials in Jaipur in Rajasthan. They were held on criminal charges of negligence that led to a major fire at an IOC refinery near Sangner.
The fire raged for over two days, claiming 11 lives besides causing extensive damage to an adjacent factory.
“The IGP had formed a committee, and after analyzing each and every aspect of the incident in detail, we have arrested nine officials of IOC,” said Lalit Kishore Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jaipur.
Among the arrested is General Manager Gautam Ghosh.
Sharma also mentioned that officials would be charge sheeted under several sections of the Indian Panel Court such as 285, 286, 287, 337, 336, 304 (A), 304 (Part 2) and the Petroleum Act among others.
However, Ghosh refused to comment further on the matter saying it is sub judice, and only his lawyer could throw light on it.
Genus Overseas Private Limited, which is located about 200 meters away from the IOC storage depot, lodged a formal complaint before the police against the IOC officials. (ANI)
