New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Team Indias cricket tour to Pakistan has been called off perhaps in the wake of the recent Mumbai terror strikes, which are said to be a handiwork of some elements in Pakistan.

Though there is no official confirmation about the death toll, around 200 people are feared dead in the attacks described as worst in the countrys history. It is believed that the terrorists came through the sea route, via Porbandar from Karachi.

The team was scheduled to leave for Pakistan on January 6 to play three Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20 match.

This would be the third international cricketing engagement that has been cancelled in the recent past. First, the Aussies cancelled its tour in March-April and subsequently a Championship Trophy tournament was cancelled, after the a spate of bomb blasts across Pakistan over the past one year, particularly the killing of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

International cricket teams, including Australia, England and South Africa had refused to play in Pakistan citing security reasons.

Confirming the cancellation of the Pakistan tour, BCCI sources said that the tour was cancelled in view of doubts about Pakistans involvement in the Mumbai terror strikes.

Shadows of uncertainty had engulfed Indias tour to Pakistan even before the Mumbai terror strikes, as the BCCI was gauging the security environment in the neighbouring country, despite repeated assurances from Islamabad of foolproof security to the Indian cricket team during their stay there.
