Nepal President calls for national unityJuly 28th, 2008 - 2:46 pm ICT by ANI
Kathmandu, July 28 (ANI): Nepals President Dr Ram Baran Yadav in his first address to the nation on Sunday evening, called for national unity and solidarity to maintain communal harmony.
According to Nepalnews, Dr. Yadav said he would remain committed to the principles of ethnic or communal harmony and national integrity.
He added that he would coordinate different group for strengthening national unity in order to bring the peace process to fruition, and draft the new constitution within the stipulated time.
Dr. Yadav also emphasised the need for scientific restructuring of the state in order to build economically and socially vibrant ”New Nepal”. He also expressed confidence that the upcoming government would work towards achieving the goals.
“There are many challenges facing us. But these challenges can also be turned into opportunities. Therefore, we need to be vigilant along with being active,” he said.
On the issue of Nepal national unity and progress, he said, “Irrespective of where we live Terai-Madhes, mountains or hills, irrespective of what language we speak or what dress we wear, what religion we follow, we all are, first and foremost, Nepalis. We will survive only if Nepal survived. Democracy will survive only if we survive. Nation can progress only if democracy survives.” (ANI)
