Nepal Constituent Assembly passes govt policies

Kathmandu , Sept 14 (ANI): Nepal Constituent Assembly (CA) that convened as legislative-parliament on Sunday endorsed the government policies and programmes.

The policies were passed with a majority at todays session after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal furnished clarifications regarding the questions raised against them.

At the Constituent Assembly House session today, Prachanda called on the political parties to move ahead with consensus on basic national agendas giving up vested interest.

Responding to the questions raised against the governments policies and programmes, he said that there is no alternative to seeking a common understanding amidst differing ideologies.

The government is ready to move ahead adopting democratic process, Kantipur quoted the PM as saying.

Pointing towards the remarks made by lawmakers of the opposition parties that the government policies are old-fashioned, Prachanda, who is also the chairman of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPN-M), said that it is not wrong to give continuity to good things of the past.

He said the government is committed to market policy that encourages national welfare and establish the farmers right changing the regulations concerning land.

The PM claimed that the government has focused on water resources in the government programmes stating economic revolution is not possible without development of the water resources.

Mentioning that the law and order situation is gradually improving, he added that stern action will be taken against those who try to take advantage of the transitional phase.

Prachanda informed that talks would be held with the Terai-based outfits and others to resolve the conflict, and crime would be controlled.

However, the parties that had filed an amendment proposal have expressed disapproval over PMs clarifications saying that they were not satisfactory.

Earlier, the amendment proposal tabled by some parties including the main opposition party Nepali Congress was disapproved with a majority.

Meanwhile, the budget based on the governments policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2008-2009 will be presented on Friday.

Ministry of Finance wrote to the legislative Constituent Assembly and informed about the budget. (ANI)
