Nepal Army Chief meets PranabDecember 13th, 2007 - 4:27 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Nepalese Army Chief, General Rookmangud Katawal, met External Affairs Minster Pranab Mukherjee here today.
Earlier, Katawal met Defence Minister A. K Antony and held extensive discussions with him on security concerns.
India had suspended arms supplies to Nepal earlier this year on the request of the new government, which included the Maoist party, following the popular upsurge against the monarchy.
General Katawal, commissioned into infantry of the then Royal Nepalese Army in December 1969, is an alumnus of the India’s National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
India and Nepal have a tradition of presenting the honorary rank of General to each other’s army chief. The custom has remained in a limbo for four years due to the political turmoil in Nepal. (ANI)
