NCC can also neutralize threats like terrorism, communalism: PM

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today said that threats like terrorism and communalism should be dealt with firmly, and added that the National Cadet Corps (NCC) could play a significant role in this endeavor.
“We have to deal with the situations like terrorism and communalism in our country. In such situations, importance of the NCC increases as they train our youths how to protect the country in a disciplined manner,” the Prime Minister said in an address to NCC cadets at a Prime Minister’s Rally here.
He also called for an increase in the strength of the NCC, which presently stands at 13 lakh, or about four per cent of the eligible youth in the country.
“I urge you to increase this number so that many more eligible youth can benefit from the NCC’s activities,” Dr. Singh said.
Cadets from all three wings of armed forces, i.e. Army, Navy and Air Force, presented a guard of honour to Dr. Singh on his arrival at the venue of the rally. This was followed by a march past.
Cadets also displayed their individual skills and standards of competence attained in various activities. Cadets slithered down from helicopters, parasailing and demonstrated a stimulated attack on an enemy post.
Dr. Singh also gave away prizes to the best cadets in different categories.
The Prime Minister’s NCC rally showcases their exciting camp life and activities, which revolve around the NCC motto of ‘Unity and Discipline’. (ANI)
