Manmohan Singh New Delhi, July 14 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Wednesday said the Naxal-affected states should have an ‘integrated action plan’ to deal with the Maoist menace.

“There are different governments in different states and all of them are dealing with the issue (Naxal) in their own way. An integrated action plan should be made and all of us should agree on one common point,” said Singh.

“All Naxal-affected States recognise the menace as the biggest security threat and the need to combat it,” he added.

Raman Singh was in New Delhi to attend a meeting convened by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh of the Chief Ministers of all Naxal-affected states to plan out a strategy to curtail the Maoists menace. The meeting of the Chief Ministers of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar deliberated on the situation arising out of the recent Maoist violence and to chalk out a strategy to curb Left-wing extremism.

Jharkhand, which is under President’s Rule, was represented by its Governor, while West Bengal sent its Health Minister for the meeting.

Home Secretary G.K. Pillai and Secretaries of about half a dozen central ministries, who deal with development, social and infrastructure sectors were present in the meeting.

According to an estimate, about 40,000 sq. km. areas in the Naxal-affected States have been affected by Naxal activities. Naxal violence has claimed the lives of over 10,000 civilians and security personnel in the last five years. (ANI)
