“Yesterday the nation witnessed the pathetic spectacle of the Prime Minister’s office informing sections of the media that the Prime Minister was embarrassed and pained about the fiasco over the Nuclear Deal. The Congress Party later informed the nation that the Prime Minister was not resigning,” Jaitley said.

Stating that the UPA Government has paralysed by its internal contradictions, he said: “Recent developments have thrown up several important questions in the mind of the people. The Government has not taken any significant decisions in the recent months.”

The reality thrown up about the sad and helpless Prime Minister is a cause for national worry, Jaitley said.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s speech at The Hindustan Times Summit in which he has said that ‘one has to live with disappointments but life must go on’, the BJP general secretary said, “It was typical of an Indian condolence message. This speech displays the state of PM’s mind.”

“The nation needs to reflect on a question ‘can a sad man lead a resurgent nation’. Neither the Prime Minister nor his office is doing the nation a favour by projecting him as a ‘helpless leader’,” he added.

Yesterday, just hours before the UPA and Left meeting, top leaders of the coalition government met amidst report that Manmohan Singh has expressed his disappointment over the politics being played over the bilateral agreement

Singh had reportedly told his UPA partners that he was embarrassed by the prospect of retreating back on the deal, which was passed by the Union Cabinet. (ANI)
