Narayanpur residents upset over Maoists repeated shutdown calls
August 15th, 2009 - 7:20 pm ICT by ANINarayanpur Aug 15 (ANI): Frequent shutdown calls given by banned Maoists organisations have upset normal life in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpura District.
Chhattisgarh has been frequent victim of Maoist attacks.
The frequency of these shutdowns has thrown normal life out of gear and affected the overall socio-economic condition of this tribal dominated state.
Maoist groups have been known for using various tactics to assert their domination with no concern to the hardship caused to ordinary people.
A T Raj, a businessman of Narayanpur, said “It will be difficult for the people to move out during shutdown. Bus and other transport services do not function due to which our customers from different places face problems in visiting us. It surely affects our business.”
The daily wage labourers are the real sufferers. The people of Naraynpur are of the view that the Maoists are not bothered about their discomfort.
Hari Singh, a transport operator says, “We at times do not care about shutdowns because we have to work. Drivers and conductors hesitate to operate bus service during shut down. We suffer losses at times and twice our vehicles got burnt.”
According to a report, the Maoists have increasingly spread out of their rural eastern strongholds and are active in nearly a third of the country’s 630 districts, up from a presence in less than a tenth of them in 2001. (ANI)
