- London, Sept 7 (ANI): An immigrant is refusing to leave jail two years after his sentence ended because he refuses to say where he is from.
The lag, whose stay behind bars costs British taxpayers 30,000 pounds annually, refuses to tell staff his real name and where he was born.
Without the essential knowledge, the prison bosses cannot release the bloke from Peterborough prison, Cambs.
He has been due for deportation since he completed his sentence. The prison has no choice but to hold him until we get the information, The Daily Star quoted Alessio Beschizza, chairman of the jails Independent Monitoring Board, as saying.
He could well be in there indefinitely unless someone takes his case up and it goes through the courts. But I cant really see that happening, Alessio said.
The authorities have not revealed the name the man uses, nor his age, the crime he committed or the length of the sentence he was given. (ANI)
