Myanmar military ruler meets President Patil

Manmohan Singh New Delhi, July 28 (ANI): General Than Shwe, the head of Myanmar’s military junta, who is presently on a five-day state visit to India, met Pratibha Devisingh Patil here on Tuesday.

Earlier, he met Prime Minster Manmohan Singh and five important bilateral agreements and treaties were signed between the two nations.

The pacts included a wide range of issues such as counter-terror cooperation, enhanced energy ties and collaboration in a string of developmental projects.

A treaty on mutual assistance in criminal matters was signed between Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Myanmar Minister of Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Myanmar Minister for Economic Planning and Development U Soe Tha signed a MoU between the two countries regarding Indian grant assistance for implementation of small development projects.

However, an agreement on cooperation in the fields of science and technology was also signed between T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and U Kyi Thein Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar, New Delhi.

Both the neighbour countries also signed a MoU on information cooperation and for the conservation and restoration of the Ananda Temple in Bagan. (ANI)
