Muslim forum welcomes tabling of Liberhan report
November 25th, 2009 - 2:24 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Lucknow, Nov 25 (ANI): The Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC), a Muslim forum that opposes the construction of the Ram temple at the spot of the demolished Babri mosque in Ayodhya, has welcomed the tabling of the Liberhan Commission Report.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Zafaryab Jilani, Convenor of BMAC, said: “With this report, one chapter has closed… Liberhan Commission, which was probing the Babri demolition case, closed one chapter, which is good because it would provide some finality in the case… This report would also help in other allied cases.”
The probe panel had recorded the statements of senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.
The Commission in its report observed that Vajpayee, Advani and Joshi should have been aware of decisions of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s plans to demolish the mosque structure.
On this aspect, Jilani opined that the inclusion of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s name in the report ‘has no importance.’
“The inclusion of Vajpayee’s name has no importance…we never call him an accused but he was involved in the conspiracy is altogether a different issue but a person, who has a knowledge of a conspiracy, could not be an accused unless he himself is a conspirator,” added Jilani.
The Liberhan Commission led by Justice M S Liberhan probed the circumstances that led to the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
After a prolonged inquiry that lasted over 16 years, Justice Liberhan submitted his findings to the government on June 30 this year. (ANI)
