Mumbai, Mar 12 (ANI): The music album of the Pakistan film ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ (In The Name of God) was released in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The film weaves together three stories — of a pop singer who comes under the influence of Islamic extremists, a Briton of Pakistani origin who is forcibly married to her cousin and a man illegally detained in the U.S. after the 9/11 attacks.
Directed by Shoaib Mansoor, the film is slated for release in India next month.
The film features Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah in a cameo as a Muslim scholar clarifying the tenets of Islam during a court case.
Praising Mansoor’s efforts, Shah said the film took a defined and progressive stand in the context of the political setting in which it was made.
“It’s the most talented and courageous bunch of youngsters who have got together to make this film. We really offer our admiration. Particularly, within the context of kind of setting, political setting in which this film was made, and the defined stand, which it takes, defined the progressive stand it takes. It is the voice of the moderate Muslim and I think it’s high time that voice should raise,” Shah said.
Pakistan’s film industry has been starved of a natural audience in India due to political differences and the dominance of Bollywood.
But the success of ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ since its release in Pakistan in July last year may be a sign that Pakistani cinema is finally coming of age.
The film opened to a standing ovation at the International Film Festival of India last year. It is expected to be premiered in New Delhi and Mumbai.
It is slated for release in India on April 4. (ANI)
